Beyond what the eye can see

Do you see what I see...

It's time to make a hidden image! You'll need:

  • Half a lemon
  • Water
  • Bowl
  • Spoon
  • Paintbrush
  • White paper
  • Heat (from a sun or lamp)
What to do:
  1. Squeeze the lemon into a bowl
  2. Add several drops of water and mix with spoon
  3. Use the paintbrush to make an image or message on the paper, and let it dry
  4. Hold the paper up to the sun (or next to a lightbulb)

Sound sleuth in action...

Try being a sound sleuth...

Sit outside, and close your eyes.

  1. List 5 loud sounds.
  2. List 5 quieter sounds.
  3. Of these, what DID you expect to hear?
  4. Of these, what DIDN'T you expect to hear?
  5. Concentrate on one sound - which direction is it coming from? How far away do you think it is?
Did you know?
Your ears help you keep your balance? There is a liquid that moves and presses against your ear nerve endings when you move. If you were to suddenly move very quickly, the liquid would push against the hairs on your nerve endings (that sounds gross, doesn't it?) in every direction, and make you dizzy.

Observation station

Your mission should you choose to accept it...

Start where you are RIGHT NOW.

  1. Jot down 10 things you can see from where you are.
  2. Of these, what had you never seen before?
  3. Of these, what had always been there?
  4. What should NOT be there?
  5. What is MISSING?
